Smile first post, time to kill the dowell pin

I've been reading all the stuff on this site for weeks and weeks. What a great resource, thanks. You guys seem to be a bunch of generous and knowledgable folks (which is really suprising, considering some of your, ahem, political opinions).

But first things first. Time to kill the dowell pin. I think I've got all the info I need, thanks again. Still rounding up a couple of tools. Fabricated the tab a few weeks ago. I have a couple of questions for you (if you're still reading). Do I need a gear puller to get the vibration dampener off? Do I really need a longer bolt when I put the 1/16" tab on?

Last question: Is there anyone in the Seattle area interested in killing a dowell pin?

Thanks again,

Lefty

you do not need a puller,as for the bolt, stick it through the tab and into the hole and see what you have left for threads,5/16 worth of thread should be enough, remember to loctite..hope this helps........

Very easy to do, just take your time and do your research. I used a longer bolt and loctite. The hardest thing was the seal but I used a vise and a few extra hands to help hold things together. I made my own wrench for the fan out of cardboard then transfered it to 3/8" plate then used a torch to cut it out. Cleaned it up a little with the grinder and I had my wrench. Be sure to torque the bolts that hold the front cover on to keep them from coming loose, maybe even the weaker strength loctite.
Good luck and enjoy the easier sleep knowing all is well.

What political opinions, I really hadn't noticed many outspoken ones around here.

Mudcat, How do you like your #5 plate? I have a simular set-up as yours. I am seeing 35# of boost. Is that what your getting? I don't see many guys running the #5 plate but I sure like the way mine runs. Thnaks, Sonny T.
