Finally Happened Totaled the 96
Let me start off and say I love my truck, 96 215 w/ 265k. I had a mishap and ended up rolling it Monday.
I have been looking at new trucks, but this just makes me take the plunge a bit faster. Going with an 03-04 short bed 4dr probably the 48re, we'll see.
Hopefully the pictures attach, not sure if I want to look for a new cab and swap it out or just pull the good parts and toss the rest. Let me know what you think. Its a bummer and something that I don't want to repeat, but God was good and the wife and I walked away, or I should say climbed our way out.
Just for reference the large divot is where the boulder used to be, I slid into it and on top as it rolled and it pushed me over.

Bummer. That is not good at all. Check a few body shops and see how much it is to repair, can't hurt, you might be surprised. If everything else fails, including swapping it out, part it out on E-Bay. "Redliner", on E-Bay, does a lot of that, I have bought parts from him.

Well, I am glad to get some other opinions on the repairability of it. It distorted the cab pretty good, but its mainly body parts. I have a "guy" who does body work just haven't given him a call for a price a new cab. I would put a flatbed on and call it good.
So what happened? Well raining out in Utard and thought it might be nice to get up in the mountains. This is up on the bench east of Farmington Utah and the dirt is silt messy stuff when it gets wet. This was a pretty short hill with good run out, but it curved to the left a bit with a boulder on the right.
Put it in gear 2-3rd low and let her creep forward and she headed straight for the rock. I wasn't going too fast (too short a space to get up speed) but hit the rock with enough inertia to yank the rock out of the ground in which case it rolled under my left wheel and started the roll. It felt like it was going to stop but over she went and that was a slow motion ride and watching my wife the whole time.
I don't remember getting out of the truck just remember jumping down and turning back to get my wife out. For some time it was surreal. Still don't think its true until I go home and the trucks in the drive way.
It was running, but I shut it off immediately so no engine damage and we proceeded to move the rock and get the truck back on all fours. Let it sit for a few minutes and it fired right up just smoked a bit and we drove it home 10 miles or so. Tie rod was bent so it was toe in and a bit tight, but all in all okay. After 10 seconds the smoke cleared and ran good as usual.
Not sure if I want to put a new cab on or find a 2wd and make a sport truck with the engine. Its still good 18mpg with the new 285's I had on it.
Thanks for the encouragement, it helps, but I am still looking for a new truck, hopefully I can get a good deal. Still not sure what to do with this one.
