Fan question - 97 2500 4x4
Hey all,
Was driving to work this morning and heard a loud clunk. Pulled over and coolant was running everywhere. One of the fan blades had broken off and sliced open the radiator. Found there is a TON of play in the bearing, and the clutch seems to be frozen up. I'm needing a new clutch, fan, bearing, and radiator. Ran across some electric fans while searching for a new fan that matches up with my truck and was wondering if they are any good. Of course the Flex-a-lite is around $600, but a company called CPP carries a bunch of electric fan setups under the name Derale for less than half the cost. ANyone heard of this company and whether the fans are any good? How do they compare to Flexalite? Are they universal or specific to the truck?
Also, anyone know where to find a new replacement fan if I go factory replacement?
THanks!
Josh

I have used OEM factory clutch fans on my shop shelf.
I have fan hubs and good radiators as well.
Right in Flex-A-Lite description of their fan set up for the Cummins truck, it lists "NOT for heavy towing"
Sound like it doesn't move enough air flow to me.

Wasn't it racinjoe66 or something like that who did the electric fan towing threads? At first he seemed positive, but once he got her loaded it got hot on him really quickly if I remember the thread correctly.
I know he abandoned the idea pretty quickly.

I have 93 d-359 with gen1 and I need a direct replacement fan, as I have new clutch for it but while I was working on the vehicle I bent a couple of the fan blades severely and it vibrates bad at aroud 1700 rpms now. If you have one how much and what would shipping be to phoenix area?

I ended up cutting the rivets off and replacing just the blade with new metal that I formed to fit. then used grade 8 bolts and loctited them. The clutches are still easy to get, I just could not find the fan itself
