Factory Trans Temp Sensor

Im 90% sure my trans temp sensor is bad, it keeps shifting up/down alll that type of stuff.
the other day it got up to 70* outside and I had no problems. I have a couple of questions.
1. could you tell me were the stock temp sensor is located?

2. do you know were I can get a Replacement besides the dealership if possible?

Ive heard its located in the pan, in the line and also on the side of the case.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
P.S. anybody know how to test it???

It's inside the valve body on '97's RE tranny, you have to drop the pan to get at it.

I've never messed around with the sensor on a RE but on a RH if you short the sensor wires together with a 1000 ohm resistor it will trick the tranny into thinking it's 70°. I'm sure the same trick will work on the RE but the temp sensor wires might be in the same connector with the rest of the tranny wiring. I don't know what color the sensor wires are but a factory service manual will tell you.

Does it go in and out of TC lockup? My guess is that its your TPS acting up. Buy some electric contact cleaner, and drill a small hole in it and spay into it while working the rod. This fixes many's problems, and also seperating the wires fromt he harness. Do a search on TPS cleaning or something similar, and you should get plenty of info. My guess is if it will hit OD at all then the sensor is fine, and its your TPS.
