exhaust brakes
Wanting to put a exhaust brake my 12 but there are a lot of different manufactors out there. Banks says to change the valve spgs on the ex valves but none of the others say that. Anyone with experience with them please answer. Thks Harold

BD at one time produced 2 versions of their brake for the 12 valve engines. The difference was in the amount of back pressure (braking HP). If the brake is set to max pressure, the weaker springs could allow the valves to open at the wrong time and the piston could hit the valve. Thus it's a good idea to swap out the springs. I doubt installing a brake that's less than fully effective is worthwhile.

The truck came factory with 30# valve springs alot of guys ran with this with no problems, and the brake works good. When you get up to a 12,000# truck and trailer your going to want to consider the 60# Valve springs for the better retarding. Bank don't offer a 30# brake thats why they tell you to do it but really it's your choice you can do it now or later. I reconmend now as it really is a diff of night & day.

You can put the 60# springs in an 93 truck with no problems. If the truck is an automatic your not going to be too happy with it due to the trans not having lock-up. As for what size thats up to you. You can have our Vac opp direct mount brake, or and inline air opp 4" PRXB. or if your real wild with alot of HP the 5" PRXB, We have them to fit almost any size exhaust.

Go to BD-Power.com and check them out. They sell tranny controllers as well as brakes for your truck. Research it yourself, then ask questions. It will help you assess the repsonses you get.
