ok so how do you ge tthe serial number if that tag is gone......mine has recently gone awol and i dont know how........

the tag was gone on my 96 when i got it used, i did call a a customer service number at(i'm trying to recall.... its that old age thing)dodge or cummins, think it was cummins, but they were not all that infromative as to the build info and specs.

You really gotta want it to find it. On the front of the passenger side of the block is the serial number. This number is covered up by the brackets that hold the alternator and lower radiator inlet. So to see it you have to take all that off which includes the AC compressor, etc.

If the tag is gone, it's because the motor dropped it's dowel pin breaking the case, and when the shop replaced the gear case they never removed the tag from the old case and install it on the new one. You're screwed...I don't know how else to track down what number was on there.
If you can get the serial numbers from the injection pump, Cummins might be able to back track to find the engine number it was installed on at the factory...long shot, but that's all I can think of.

yeah IT WAS ON there after they replaced my front cover after the kdp busted loose.....it just came up missing a few days ago and its been a few years since the kdp incident..so no the shop didnt screw me they did there job im sure 100,00 miles worht of rattling around under there finally shook it loose
