EGT in Home made Twin setup!!!!
Im wondering if anyone could help me with my EGT problem..i built twins using a stock hx35/ht3b and a stock intercooler aswell i read about 1500 F. at the end of the track is that normal? i think its a little too high...let me know anyone who as a similar setup..
and how long would a stock hx35 last with that high EGT's?

Yeah, how much boost are you seeing when you get near the end of the track, and how much fuel are you putting into it? With my twins I still see 1400+, but it's only for about 12 seconds.
I keep my wastegate set so I only see about 60-65 psi, as I have a stock head gasket. It has seen 70, but I try not to do that.
The HX35 is not what you have to worry about cooking, it's the pistons. Now, if you are pushing too much air through the HX35, and pushing it out of its efficiency map, you'll be actually heating up the air as you compress it, causing your higher EGTs.
To calculate this you'll need a boost gauge between the commpressors, so you know what the HT3B is putting out, then you can tell how hard you are working the HX35.

ok yea i hit aprox. 50 lbs of boost with stock head gasket and stock bolts..i run a 215hp pump with a #0 plate in it, using new eras 435 injectors and i have some huge DV's in it laser cut its smokes alot now..
You(seamy) run 60-65 lbs of boost with stock head gasket, do you have fire rings? Cause i need to do headwork on mine too Thanks for the info it was very helpful.

I did switch over to 12mm studs as extra insurance, but was running this way before the head studs. Some say I have been lucky, but I say it's a calculated risk. Over 60 with a stock head gasket is playing with fire.

If you are using your stock 12cm housing I could definitely see that causing an egt issue. If you are using your stock housing, did you port the wastegate? I also wanted to say, what an interesting truck, 1/2 ton with a cummins. Have you ever weighed it? I bet it is really light.

yikes 60lbs boost with stock HG. thats gonna pop soon =(
Ive heard of bad results installing studs without doing the gasket and preparing the head / block and all.. seems almost like the head is settled and the studs distort the metal around the holes and gasket just enough to let it pop.
This supposedly is more of a risk even when you swap a single bolt at a time.
I was about to do this very same thing as insurance but was warned against it.

Thanks, i weighted it once at a old scale and i believe it didnt weight right..at that time it wighted 2100 kg. if that would be right it would only be 200 kg lighter then a 3/4 ton, im gonna weight it at another scale soon and let you know..and no i didnt port the wastegate, all i did was puttin on the stock hx35, and i believe if i would port it the egt's would drop a bit..
by the way i saw you were interested in those huge steel bumpers, we have a factory near by who makes them, if ur interested let me know and i can give u a phone number.. web page is www.banenstrailers.com

hey in my research i found your thread, if you think about porting your turbo, which i think you should, here is a link i found too...

i think your top charger is running out of its efficiency range. meaning too much boost without a bigger/external wastegate

For a while I had a 14cm exhaust housing on the HX35 but have since switched it back to a 12cm, to get better spool-up. My EGTs are good, with slightly quicker spooling. I have a 42mm external WG.
My head studs have been on it since 6-1-2006, and have 20K miles on them.
