An easier way to tell...

First post here so hello all! I've been lurking, searching, lurking, and searching some more. I'm looking at getting my first CTD and have found a great wealth of knowledge on here and a couple other boards, but have a couple questions I cannot find the answers to.

I'm planning on a '94-'early '98 for the 12V, 5-speed, 4x4. My main question is on axles. From what I've gathered, '94-96 (maybe '97.5?) 2500LD had D44/9.25, 2500HD coming with D60/D70. Easy way to tell the difference (other than looking at the axles) is by measuring the spring width, 2.5" for the LD and 3" for the HD. Only problem is that's hard to do when searching the net for a truck that may be several hundred miles away. So is there an easier way to tell off the bat if I'm looking at an HD, or at least a D60/70 combo? Are all CTD's considered HD's with the D60/70 combo? Thanks.

First thing, welcome to DTR.

All CTD equipped trucks starting in 89 have the D60/70 combo in some form or another.
All automatic trucks from 94 to 2002 where equipped with a D60 in the front if 4x4 and a D70 in the rear.
All manual trans trucks from 94 to 2002 where equipped with a D80 in the rear.
Spring widths are all the same from 94 to 2002, number of springs vary and the addition of helper springs also. 89 to 93 had the narrower springs.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I had a suspicion that all the 4x4 CTD equipped trucks had a D60 under the front, just couldn't find anything saying so. Now to find one within 1200 miles.
