Bought the truck!! -Does this seem like a ok deal? 94' 1 ton
I wanted to thank everyone here who was willing to help a new diesel guy out, I bought the truck and got it home today. It's my new best friend, lol, I never knew driving could be this much fun. I'm sure i'll have lots more questions to come. First things first I gotta order that tst KDP kit before I drive to much. Then it's fuel plate moving time, and maybe 3k gsk, we'll see how the trans likes the fuel plate first. My nieghboor who's the diesel mech. really liked it, so thats a good sign. My paypal payment to this site in getting sent right when I order the KDP kit because this site is great and helped me alot with what to look for and everything else. This truck is such a step up from my 91 3/4 ton chevy, the chevy was really reliable just give it a oil change and it was good forever, but it couldn't tow and got horrible milage.

The only thing that i care about is the oil drip, i'll have to check that out to see what it is for sure, and i'm hoping to be able to get the price down maybe close to 8k, but it seems like a good truck, what are ur thoughts guys? Oh, and the one pic is my quick paint edit to get rid of the side steps and rack.

I can't answer many of your questions. I bought the truck a month or so ago from a guy in Puyallip. He was selling it on behalf of his father in law, who had just had a stroke, and couldn't drive anymore.
I thought that I would use it for hauling horse stuff for my wife, but after thinking about it have decided that it makes more sense for me just to use the equipment that I have otherwise and not take on more insurance payments and garage space. I haven't advertised it yet.
Because of this background I don't know much about its history. I did run a CarFAX on it before I bought it, and it doesn't show any wrecks and that the mileage is probably right. It has spent its life in Oregon and Washington.
Presumably, the father-in-law spent about $2,500 on the Banks upgrades within the last year. It seems to have good power. It has some gauges on the window post -- the turbo boost meter and exhaust temperature gauges seem to work, I don't think the transmission temperature gauge is hooked up.
Defects in the truck include:
- the gear indicator is off a little, when you are in drive it says second, or something like that,
- there is an intermittent electrical connection somewhere. The instruments in the middle of the ceiling (outside temperature, compass and reading lights) and the right side outside power mirror work sometimes, then sometimes don't. Also, the fuel level gauge doesn't seem very accurate. My guess is that there is a loose ground wire under the dash somewhere, but I haven't looked.
- there is an oil drip under the motor sometimes, I think it may be the vent.
- There is a tear about 3" long in the drivers seat near the seam.
- The crossbar for the lumber rack is missing.
The VIN is 1B7MF36C1RS689857. I have a clear title.
I can't think of anything else that one could tinker with on it. Otherwise it is in nice shape. The body is very straight, nice original paint, nice chrome running boards and wheel covers. Front tires look almost new, rear ones are getting on, but still have some life in them. It drives well. Starts easy, shifts nice. Drives straight and true, but there is some play in the steering. I think that is normal for these trucks. It has the owners manual and I also bought a shop manual for it, which would be included. It has a fancy CD player with remote control that sounds good with the factory Infinity speakers.
As you can tell, I'm trying to be as honest as I can about it. Don't hesitate to ask more questions, I'll do the best I can.

U think the oil is just a loose trans pan or oil pan? I had a bad drip on my chevy and I just went under cleaned the oil and went to check the trans pan and every bolt was about 2 turns loose, lol, leak solved. I'm gonna bring some tools and check those pans to see if thats the case. I think I can swap in a manual tranny for about $3k so in case the auto goes thats a good plan since most cummins 5spd's I've seen haven't been cheaper than $14k

Looks like i'm gonna pick this truck up tomorrow. I fell in love with it when I took it for a drive. 1st and 2nd gear are for towing u can tell, but once you get into 3rd and up the thing boosts and flys. It sounds great, and drives smooth, barely any play in the steering. it looks brand new except inside the bed.
What can I do to get more power out of 1st and 2nd gear, or is it just a matter of gearing? Gauges work great, just gotta hook up the trans temp gauge. It has a couple things like fuel level gauge reads empty no matter what, and when ur in drive it reads 2nd, but the thing sounds and starts great. Still not sure what all is installed with the banks system, i saw a banks big head, twin air, not sure what else yet, don't really know much about banks other than there expensive and most people don't like them, lol. But once you get going this thing has power.

good luck with it. It looks like an immaculate truck. And buying from older owners is usually a great buy, as they tend to take care of things more. Did this guy own it the entire time? I bought a 6 year old ford ranger from a retired guy once and it was nicer than trucks on carlots that were only 1 year old.

It probably just has a different fueling plate to go along with the obvious mods (gauges, twin-ram, big head) That is one clean looking truck though! The look of a single cab 4x4 is hard to beat! Start saving for a built tranny and resist the bombing bug, once you get a built auto in it AND THEN bomb that thing will FLY. I have just about made up my mind that my next vehicle will get the full works done on an auto tranny . Enjoy your new truck man!

Do u guys know if theres a way to tell if the kdp has been tabbed already? I tried to search but didn't find anything. Is the replacement bolt different looking, or do I need to just buy the kit anyway to make sure? Thanks

you wouldn't know from just looking if the KDP was tabbed, but some folks fixit by drilling the timing cover and putting a bolt in. That you would be able to see, but I think the tab is the better fix. Looks like a pretty nice truck for a good price.

Looks like a very nice truck, and with the towing you mentioned you do, it'll be a real help to have a dually. I would say the electrical gremlins the current owner mentions may be a bit to track down, but at least he's honest and let you know rather clearly what to expect. Quite nice to buy from an apparently decent seller. It's also a good help to him and his family during this time and it's nice of you to help them out.
I was a little suspicious of the 5-speed 2500 ebay ad listed - seems odd to me that only one side of the truck is really photographed. It's also strange that while he shows some detial shots of the truck, there are few good, overall shots of the truck itself. It's also farily well know that people rarely modify a truck to drive it gently. Think you have a much better deal with the dually.
