Diesel fuel-good for how long?
Here's a general question for everyone:
I keep a spare five gallon can of diesel in the bed of my 2500, it occurred to me last week that it's been a long time since I filled it- question is- is it still good and should I dump it my tank and refill it? I'm religious about keeping my tank as full as I can and add an adiditive at almost every fill up. With the concern about diesel engines running good, clean fuel is it safe to dump 5 gallons of maybe year old fuel into my tank? Anyone have any input on this topic? How about adding fuel preservative to the spare can next time I fill it? I bought a bottle of the NAPA brand, not STABIL. The NAPA brand says it's good for diesel and gas- don't know if STABIL is for both types or not?

They say diesel goes bad after about a year but I personally wouldn't worry about it as long as it isn't comtaminated especially if the can is full.
I had an old 500 gallon farm tank sitting in my bone yard for 15 years with about 50 gallons of fuel in it. Gave the tank to a friend and told him to use the fuel for starting fires. He instead used it in his PSD with no problem.
Another friend who works for a demolition company in Seattle said they were dismantling an old WWII barge for scrap and used the 50 year old diesel from the barge to run their trucks and equipment without a problem.
