Death Wobble REAL bad

When driving straight, my steering wheel is cocked 90 degrees to the left, it says dodge with the d toward the floor and the E toward the ceiling.

If I straighten the steering wheel to where it was on the day it was built, my truck darts heavily to the right, and the truck will slightly wobble even on the flattest straightest newly paved road. It is when I hit even the slightest imperfection the truck starts to SLAM the pavement, like BAD can not drive the vehicle over 20mph.

I've heard to replace the track bar, the steering dampner, and to get it aligned to half of the factory specs.

Need help bad or truck is sold $2000

All I can say is to search for "death wobble" and read. It can turn into a costly repair in a hurry. You need to check every front end component for play..track bar, steering linkages, ball joints, etc, etc... it could be shocks, tires, alignment etc, etc, anything...lol I just had this issue and replaced the control arms and installed a new steering stabilizer, then had it aligned. EVERYTHING else I replaced last fall so every front end component in my truck is new or near new. I hope I don't get DW again..

I got passed by a lifted, big wheeled, Chevy yesterday that was wobbling so bad I bet his cab had 1 foot of travel to each side. I couldn't believe it. I hope I never get something like that.

Track bar is usually the problem from my experience. I would look there first.

If I read that right, you need to find where you are getting all the steering play before you drive the thing again.

You say you can turn the wheel a full 90 degrees without really changing the direction of the truck?

If that is the case, if it is the track bar, it is completely broken.

Jack the thing up in the air off the front diff, and turn the wheels to find out what the heck is going on before you kill yourself.

Sorry to hear about your truck having the "Death Wobble!" I got it bad on my 2006 awhile back too and it will definitely get you attention!

I am going to post some links below for you to read on this very subject on our trucks. The posts have got ALOT of information and input from our DTR Members. Get ready for some LONG reading! That first thread is now at twenty-five pages!

1.) https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....php?p=2444405

(This thread is the most recent thread we have had on "Death Wobble."

2.) https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=94076

(This thread is a little older and not quite as long as the one above.)

Well you guys were right, track bar bushings are not existant. At least an inch of play between the bushings. Just have to source one now.

Sometimes i get fed up and just let it slam the ground, like when I'm in traffic and stopping would cause death. What can break when it wobbles? Cuz it sure sounds like something is gonna break...

Opacity:

I have seen the dashboards crack on the 2nd and 3rd Gen Trucks if the shaking/wobble is bad enough and lasts a long time. It is also hard on the frames and all the front end parts.

If its a stock track bar (which it sounds like it is), give Luke's Link a call. Get the link for the top and the bushing for the bottom and you're good to go. Never have to replace it again.

MD Mike is giving you good advice on the "Luke's Link!" I use them also and they work very well. Here is their website if you are interested:
