Daugher's truck...still.
I'm having some trouble with this one. I've cleaned the sol. and fabbed another boot, replaced both relays. I traced the blue wire to the wiring harness and lost it. Fired it up, shut it down, worked fine. My wife took it to town, and it quit her going down the road. A couple of questions:
1. Where does the blue wire go, the starter, and back through the pull-in circuit?
2. What constitutes the hold-in circuit?
3. When you all have replaced the sol. with a pto cable did you utilize the sol. mounting bracket in a way to mount the cable to it?
I believe that the problem is an intermittent electrical open in the hold-in circuit. The recent history of the truck is that it has always started. It may run for 30 seconds, or operate normally for 3 days, but has always started and run at least for a little while.
I've done a search for a tutorial/tips on installing the pto cable. I am leaning in that direction to solve this problem once and for all. I am interested in bracket locations and routing information.

The juice for the hold on circuit doesn't go though any relays or the blue wire, just a fuse and the key switch.
You could have a bad key switch or loose connector under the steering column cover. Switch is availible at most autoparts for around $30.

I suppose I could jump the ign. switch and run new wire from the battery, through a fuse, to a toggle, to the sol. I could do this under the hood for a few days to see if this was the culprit, then make a nice install inside the cab if that seemed to solve the problem. The part of me that hates something that is a PITA, is guiding me to the pto cable.

Thing is if the problem is the switch or wiring more problems with them are likely on the way that may affect other functions.
I would at least take the column cover off and check for loose wires (two torx screws from the bottom)
It's quite common on rigs where people change the wheel tilt often that wires get pulled loose from their connectors.
DC in their effort to save a penny only gave the bare minimum of wire length, sometimes not enough.
