Here is the truck:
'97 4x4 long bed x-cab, auto, mickey thompson wheels w/new Yokohama's, tonneau cover, k&n filter, class 5 hitch and gooseneck, rancho shocks, power seat etc. body exellent, interior exellent.
Here is what it needs:
1)windshield
2)rear brakes
3)block heater ?
4)fuel gauge
5)fuel return line
6 tranny service due
7)
Has 135,000 miles
Anyone priced these repairs recently? I'd like to know the cost. Also, I am giving 11,000 for this truck.
What do you all think???

Yikes, IMO seems quite a bit outta line considering the repairs needed. Sounds like it was neglected. Dang, I was asking the the same for my 95 4x4 5 spd with 0 problems or work needed a while back then the head gasket leak showed up so I m just gonna hold on to it and fix it. Dont know what state your in but try bookin it out with KBB or Nada guide.

The price doesn't seem bad, but a lot of it depends on if you can do the work. You have about a $2000 bill here as a very rough estimate if someone else does the work. Also, are you sure that this is ALL the work needed? Has the KDP been tabbed for instance? So bottom line, is the truck worth around $13K to you fixed? Only you can answer that. This spring I bought my 3500 2WD from Florida (no rust!) with 115k onit for $8900 "as is" I only put a few hundred into it to get it inspected and have since put a few hundred into it for repairs. Based on my experience, your price seems a bit high, but certainly not wildly out of range. I realize the 2WD ~ 4WD thing makes this a bit of apples and oranges, but it does give an idea.

seems kinda pricey for the amount of work that needs to be done...
you also have to ask yourself how well was the truck taken care of if it needs all that work? obviously maintanence issues pop up, but they whould be taken care of when they pop up!
if they put off all that stuff, what else did they put off during the life of the truck?

I got him down to 10,750.
The bank says 12,700 for that truck after repairs.
My insurance will do the windsheild for 100.00
I can do the tranny service, fuel return line, block heater.
Brakes are about 150-175.
Anyway, I think I can get it to snuff for 500.00.
So 10,750 plus 500 = 11,250. Throw in unknown 500.00 and it pencils out to 11,750.00
I think its a fair deal. Not a bragging great deal but fair. The truck is actually very well cared for- it looks better than my PSD (same year) and I care for my vehicles.
I'm not trying to talk myself into anything, but around here it is a lucky buyer who can get a truck similar to this for less. I know the deals come around now and again, but as I learned with my PSD, the better trucks, even those with minor maintainance stuff to do bring better prices. And I have not seen that many sellers willing to go below 10,500 that had a truck not needing at least serious cosmetic help.
Selling my current truck will put me at worst even and probably a little ahead on the deal.

I gave $15,500 for mine a year ago w/ 82,000 miles, & all it needed was the fuel gauge fixed, seemed like alot but it was a one owner & a friend of my dad's who bought it new, & probably one of the cleanest well cared for trucks you'd ever find anywhere, so I gave what seemed like to me a little much for it, but it was $ well spent in the end, Dusty

Sounds like a fair deal to me when you consider you are getting a truck that is built tougher than the $30-40K, 3G's, not faster or more powerful but tougher. I've owned both, so speaking from experience

Well, it looks like I'm going to go for it- the title swap is Monday. Unless the seller flakes out on me or I learn something here that changes my mind I'll be posting with a sig starting with "'97 CTD... "
The idea of a cummins is sounding good. My PSD is a really nice truck but my gosh the trouble it is to work on, and the injection/glow plug, front end springs etc are fussy/POS. I know all trucks have their issues, but the PSD can be a little demanding. I wanted an engine/drivetrain that by and large I could forget about other than normal maintainance. I think that engine in a PSD like mine is a really great engine, crammed into a small space with a crappy front end. It could pull like the dickens though, WOT... In 40,000 miles I never had a problem with it.

I really appreciate the replies... I think my first mod is the one that stops defueling on grade. Anyway, got lots of info gathering to do on how to approach the resurrection of this truck, starting with the tranny service and KDP.

the KDP is easy
straight pipe it, slide the plate full forward, slide the AFC housing forward and loosen up the AFC spring (I yanked mine out), and bottom out the high speed throttle stop... you should be able to get ~3000rpm or so out of it and make a fair amount more power with no money outlay
