Cruise Control

Hey guys,

When traveling straight down the road my steering wheel stays cocked over to the right. So, I undid the steering shaft from the power steering pump and tried to align the steering wheel. I soon figured out that the shaft only fits one way. But, in the process I think I turned the wheel too far one way or the other and now my cruise does not work. I took the airbag assembly off the steering wheel and there did not appear to be anything unplugged. Any suggestions? Is there a ground wire I may have unplugged or broken that I should look for to start with. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. But, I think it is something to do with the wiring because the "cruise" light on the dash will not light up.

is the air bag light on ? if you had the key off and moved the wheel to much you can damage the clock spring which controls your cruise and air bag ,,,, clock springs are about 70- 80 dollars from the dealer ,,, (and or fuses)

As for straightening the wheel, you need to lengthen the drag link. That's the rod that connects the steering box to the axle. Just loosen the 2 clamps and use a pipe wrench to turn the coupler. You don't need to go very far.

I'm not sure about the cruise . . . mine only worked once. I then disconnected it. My throttle is so touchy that the cruise just makes a mess of smoke on the highway.

Take care,
Phill

I have not noticed if the airbag light is on or not. I will check and report back. I read about the clockspring mechanism in a Haynes Repair Manual but it says not to turn the steering shaft if you have the steering wheel off. I read that AFTER I had undone the steering shaft and had no cruise. So, that also applies to undoing the steering shaft too? Also, does the airbag light necessarily have to be on for the clockspring to make the cruise not work? My airbag is intact and it has not deployed. Thanks alot!

Clock spring or brake lite sw. I would explore the brake lite sw first. It has 3 sets of contacts, one for the brake lites the other 2 for the cruise. Chrysler brake lite sw are a known problem.
