Question crank sensor on 12 valve?

what is the crank sensor actually doing on a 12 valve engine? why does it need it?

It lets the computer know the truck is running.

I am wanting to strip everything off of my truck for pulling, i was going to do away with the computer, but i wasnt sure what all i was going to run into by doing this. I just want everything off of the truck that is not necessary, mainly because most everything on the truck doesnt even work!

No crank position sensor on a 12 valve, it has a engine speed sensor (ESS)
You'll only need the computer and ESS if you have a auto tranny.

Your right!! but you will still need to figure out a charging system with no computer.

Any external 12 volt regulator will work.
I've used them a few times when the regulator portion of the PCM goes out.

Yeah I thought I was going to have a problem with the charging system, I have the wiring diagrams I just need to study them and figure out what to do!
