2. you DO NOT need to change the entire brake pedal assembly out. The auto and manuals share the same support bracket, just get the pedal set and hang it in....shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to convert it.
5 minutes? I took me 2 hours, what a pain! Changing the pedals a getting the crossmember in and out was the hardest parts.
So far I'm very happy with the changeover.

I have a 95 auto 4x4 extra cab 2500. I would love to have a six speed installed in my truck. I would like to know just how many $$ I would expect to pay to have one installed and working. My truck has 270000 km on it now and I don`t trust the auto 47rh. I did replace the factory TC with a single disk billet 16000 stall last summer. But I like the idea of the std trans. So a ball part figure would help me make up my mind . Thanks so Much . later Don

You may have to source the parts yourself. I'm not sure if anyone still offers a kit or not.....
So, it's all going to depend on the price you pay for all the parts, and what era of truck the parts come from. If you throw in an '01 6-speed, you should be able to source all the parts for a direct bolt in - very little monkey business outside of the speedo. If you throw in a newer one like I did ('04 6-spd into a '97) then there's more work required, which will drive up the install price. They don't make the NV5600's any more so if you go that route, it all depends on how cheap you can find the used parts... I don't know anything about the newer 6-speeds though.
Here's something I posted in another thread, maybe it can help out a wee bit...
"Which manual are you thinking of putting in there? I just finished swapping an '04 NV5600 6-speed into my father-in-law's '97 2wd auto. Not a hard swap at all. Only real problem we ran into was speedo - the 2wd speed sensor is in the trans tail housing on pre '98 trucks where as it's in the diff on post '98's which means our 6-speed has no provision for a speed sensor. Ordered a Dakota Digital SGI-5 to solve that. Also used the drive shaft from the '04, so we had to get some fancy work done on it too to make it fit.
Anyways, if you stick a NV4500 5-spd from the same era into there, all you'll really need is drive shaft (or have yours shortened or lengthened... can't remember which way), trans from a 2wd, clutch pedal, clutch and flywheel, master/slave and cross member. Cut a hole in the floor for the shifter and do a wee bit of wiring tricks and you're up and running! If you pull the parts from a junk yard, cut pigtails from the manual trans plugs to help make a nice job of it, and remember to save/get ALL the bolts. Put a new release bearing in it too need it or not."
To do our 2wd 6-speed swap we needed:
Clutch pedal
Master/slave assembly
Clutch and flywheel
NV5600 and cut a hole in the floor for shifter
Drive-shaft work (we used the '04 drive shaft and had it "re-tubed" to the right length)
Some Neutral start and reverse light switch wiring (minimal and easy)
A little modification to the rear cross member
Ordered the SGI-5 to make the speedo work (not finished with this one yet)

I sure wish we lived close together ! I would just let you do the swap . I would have a slightly used single disk billet TC for sale and the 47 rh that still shifts nice . I`am planning a trip up your way in a few months and would much rather have a dependable std trans for the trip. I`am going to print off this post and see what I can find for parts . Thanks Don T
