Clutch and related questions...

'96 2500 4x4

Well I pulled my gearbox to fix a bad leak and ever since then its been replacing/doing this and that! Had the driveshafts all overhauled and balanced, new exhaust, changing all the fluids, doing a valve adjustment, new filters, KDP fix and ripping apart gearbox to find the source of a weird noise... well today I figured I may as well rip off the clutch that took all of ten minutes....

This is only the second or third clutch I have ever looked at... its been a few years so I have no idea what a good or bad clutch disc looks like. I have taken some pictures below for y'all to gander at and tell me if I should replace it. I don't have much money to work with so if I do end up having to replace the disc do I also have to get the flywheel and pressure plate replaced...? they both look fine to me... but idk???

I also was thinking about replacing the pilot and throwout while I was in there. The throwout spins smoothly but there is a very slight bit of play in it... is this normal? As for the pilot it looks as if it is pressed into the flywheel... correct?

Looking forward to your thoughts, thanks!

I'm no expert on clutches so I'll let someone else comment about the condition of yours.

If you do replace the clutch I believe it is good practice to replace the pressure plate at the same time. Unless the flywheel is badly damaged it only needs to be resurfaced. From the appearance of your clutch I'd guess your flywheel only needs resurfacing.

Throwout and pilot bearings are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace, and since you have some concerns about them it would be a good idea to replace them.

Yeah I am waiting for someone to tell me what sort of condition that this clutch disc is in...

If I end up needing to replace it I plan on doing everything you suggested... Looking at the MU 0090 Rally from SouthBend

its not bad but my the way i look at it if you've got it that far apart you've done half the work so why not just replace it. if you plan on putting any power to the truck you might want to concider upgrading to a heaver clutch because a stocker wont take it

I'd be interested to see what the flywheel and pressure plate look like. That disk looks pretty decent actually for the age.
