Changing the 5.9 bt to a 8.3 ct

Can the 8.3 6ct replace the 5.9 6bt without major changes? Both engines are the 12 valve type. Does anyone know if the transmission bolt pattern is the same? Are the engines overall the same deminisons? This is just a thought in order to get a little more power for towing 20K/30K lbs.

The 8.3 is a great deal bigger.....you would have a rough time getting it into a pickup.

Bigger truck in order

I had everyting weighed this weekend and the worse case it came in at 26500 combined weight. I guess a bigger truck is in order.

the 8.3 has been put in a pick-up before some mid 90's model F250 has it...the pic has been circulating around...but i believe the engine is 1800lbs while the 5.9 is 1100lbs...if u want more capability from ur truck...then get bigger brakes, deeper gears, heavier rated rims and tires, and add a few springs to each side and you're good to go

A 8.3 longblock may only be 1000 lbs more than a 5.9, by the time you factor in everything else needed your looking at 3000 lbs. Now Im not saying it cant be done, heck you could put one in a riding mower. But your putting faith into something thats getting close to 30,000 lbs. I dont know about anyone else on here, but I dont want to be the one who kills a bus load of girl scouts because I thought it would stop. Do yourself a favor and look at some FL Freightliners or some L series Fords. If your dead set on installing a 8.3 at least change it over to airbrake.
