Changing 3.55 to 4.10

I have searched but I can't seem to find a definitive answer to my question.

I want to change my 3.55s for 4.10s. My truck is a 95 automatic. What parts do I need to do this? I've heard I can swap the gears only and I've heard I need a new carrier. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Probably the best way is find another rear with the gears in it then it'll be setup, you shouldn't even have much trouble finding someone to trade with on the board since most people want the 3.55.

all you need to change is the gears. if you have a dana 70 in the rear wich you should unless its been changed. if the rear is an 80 you will need the carrier for 4.10's

I did the opposite swap on my rig 2 months ago. Mine is a 97 auto with limited slip rear dana 70 and front 60. I bought used gearsets and new install kits and that is all - except for new gasket sealer and gear lube obviously. The install kits included all new carrier and pinion bearings, seals, shims, marking paint with brush and ring gear bolts. I paid more for the install kits than I did for the gears! The job took us about 8 hours using air tools, press, etc and with the truck on a hoist.

If you have a rear 70 then you do not need a new carrier! The front 60 also uses the same carrier for 3.55 and 4.10.

I have my 4.10 gears for sale if you are interested. I am asking $200 for both sets plus shipping. If you are interested send me a pm.

Oops. I meant to say 4.10 to 3.55. So If I have a Dana 70 I just need the new gears? How can I tell if it's a 70?

The best way is to get under your truck and look at the tag on the diff cover. It should also say on your options tag under the hood but I am not totally sure about that.

I have a 4x4 with a Dana 80 with 4.10s. We'd have to swap both axles. I am in Alabama. Don't know if that'd work for you. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Disregard...
