Can't fill trannie fluid all the way up HELP
I ordered some amsiol trannie fluid for my 93 one ton with a manual and I removed the filler plug and drain plug. And I noticed that when I removed the filler plug alot of trannie oil came out. I would say about a pint and a half. The truck is on level ground and in neutral, so I was worried about it. But when I drained her, not that much came out. So I filled her back up and she got full at 4 pints.
So here is the problem, what did I do wrong.
Amsoil is telling me she takes 8 pints.
Manual Transmission, NV4500..........8.0 pints

a better question would be "why was there extra oil in the tranny" Probably making noise so they backed it up onto a hill and over filled it ... Done that b4 with a GM

there is extra oil even after u drain it out the drain plug. I found out last night when I removed the rear housing, but only about 1/4 quart or so. The Nv4500 takes 4 quarts.

Some people think more is better (far from true) and remove the shifter to pour it in from the top.
Most trannys and differentials are designed so that the fluid level comes halfway up the lowest single ball bearing in a set. If the level is higher the bearing will run hot.

I am going to assume that he has swapped in an Nv4500 , because 93 trucks did not come with those, or is this possibly the cause of confusion?
If he has swapped one in , is the driveline angle different on a 1st gen , causing the fluid capacity to be less?

89-93 trucks came with Getrag 360 manuals. If it still has the getrag 360 most people recommend about 2 extra quarts in them to save front bearings .Run this question on the first gen section and I am sure you will get lots of help with this .A getrag has the name spelled in large letters on the left ( I think ) side.
