Burn Out

I was just poking along in the site and was reading a post about a guy who did some upgrades and was upset with his truck because he couldnt break the tires loose while power braking. My truck is stock as far as I know other than the mods listed in my signature. I can power brake my tires with ease and can break them loose on any turn with relative ease. I rode with a guy in an '03 4X4 HO with a full Banks kit, not shure which one, he couldnt get his tires loose while set on 5. Should I assume something has been done to my truck before I bought that I dont know of? Just dont know why people are complaining about power with mods while I have a mostly stock truck and am very very happy with the power it supplies. Also, is there any way to identify my auto tranny as a manufacturer installed tranny or an upgrade just by looking at it or searching for numbers or ID plates? Thanks.

Keep in mind your tires, and the condition of the roads.

Im guessing you have an open differential though?? I have limited slip, and i can light them up, but if i had an open differential I know i could roast it off if i wanted. I can bring my truck sideways around a turn if i want, but im not stock. Im guessing your truck is stock with an open differential. Does it smoke any? If it doesent smoke much at all or any, its probably stock. Also, check the breakoff screw on the pump, and see if its been messed with.

I agree with Eric

Its pretty hard to get a peg legger (open dif) to spin sideways or do a nice even burnout because of the torque distribution to the wheels, a limited slip as mine is is real easy to break loose, (primary reason i need new rears... ) and i have no trouble lighting them up, i admit ive tried in 4hi, but i just get some wicked whiplash when i try it.... plus its a lil harder with a manual tranny... but still you shouldnt have any probs breakin them loose, unless ur a peg legger.... Lincoln locker anyone? lol!! (i dont reccomend it tho..)

Well the break off screw is still there but that doesnt guarantee anything as they sell replacements. Not sure if the diff is open or not. I have power braked it before and it slid sideways. Any thoughts on the tranny questions?

I changed my rear brake cylinder to the larger GM ones, I bet my truck wouldn't do a powerbrake burnout

but I wouldn't want to anyways

Mine was stock, except for the plate was slid a bit forward and I could light "it" up all day long. I say it because it is a peg leg, but sometimes I'll get both going. With my plate and gov springs it just makes the tire(s) smoke faster.

There's something goofy with the 3rd gens, Dad's 600 won't bust the tires loose even going around a corner. You'd get a few chirps, but that's about it.

The automatic 600 i drove would! I let out of it to keep from burning the tires to much. It ran good.
