budget towing turbo?

Is there such a thing? What is the best bang for the buck without spending $1500? I have just seen alot of Cummins turbo's for sale that may or may not be compatible with a 5.9 but are low priced. Thanks for the input.

If you're mainly towing a 18cm nonwastegated works pretty well although slow to spool up.
You can usually find them cheap used from a first gen trucker who didn't like the slow spool and went for a 2nd gen turbo.

The dodgezilla isnt a bad towing turbo, its a 40 compressor/35 exhaust wheel, you can buy it without ex houaing and slide it right into your exhaust housing for around 700 or so,ot buy a complete setup w 14 WG (1000)or 16 non wg (850) .This turbo would give you the cool air you need to run lower EGTS pulling,Going to a big exhaust housing will cool it,but it also increaes lag and and slows down the compressor cruising, which lowers boost, increases egt.a 35 compressor running slow in an 18 housing wont move nearly as much cool air as the larger 40 compressor in a 14wg housing or 16 nwg housing.

Can I get the efficiency I need out of a 14/16cm2 housing on my existing HX35? I understand that this is not the best method for my madness but I need something that is not so expensive (always the case) right now so I can save for the turbo I need. I have no more than $800 to spend.

Here it is,brand new holset turbo within your budget, bolt it on and enjoy.Ny sense messing with uses turbos, and swapping housings on a 35 compressor when you need more cool air. It's within your budget by 5 dollars with a new exhaust houising (16 NWG)http://www.citydiesel.net/dodgezilla...acturers_id=11

You ought to have a hx on the 96 that's worth 250 to 300 to sell and help offset the cost. Give high tech turbo a call, I think they still have a good deal on the wheel and housing to make the hx35 into a 35-40. The 370 injectors are a little hard to keep cool if you have any fuel going to them.

Yeah, lets hear some reviews. Which housing also. Seems to be some dispute over which housing is best with which mods.

Nothing really,it is a 40/35 hybrid, and it was in his budget.I was just showing an option, one that i would likely choose if i was in his situation.

I would check with HTT. I turned my WH1C into a hybrid for less than $275. It really helped keep things cool with a load behind and pulling up some small hills. You could convert your own turbo for cheap by calling HTT. Or you could go with John's link and just R&R and be done with it. If you're going to drop more coin later on for a turbo I would recommend building it yourself. It isn't hard at all.

If you really keep your eyes open there are deals on turbos when someone gets tired of them. I just picked up a used twin setup for a real decent price.
The hybrids are good turbos, my wifes truck has one on it with 115 injector and a ez box. I had it on another truck before hers.
