Re:Brown smoke

It could be the fuel....so I added some RED LINE 85 PLUS to see if it helps...I took a fuel sample and everything looked clean...guess I wait and see if it clears up

Re:Brown smoke

Nitrogen oxides are reddish-brown in color, a by-product of diesel combustion. You dont noramlly see them in this color though.
Advanced timing and the right conditions could cause this to happen. The right conditions could be the fuel quality, blending, cetane number, etc.

Run another tank of fuel and "see" what happens

Don~

Re:Brown smoke

Looks like the Red line 85 Plus helped...I am back to normal looking black smoke...I stopped by the truck stop that I fueled at and asked if they had any troubles with the fuel and talked to the manager....he told me they just had a dirty tank cleaned and treated and that I must have gotten fuel from that tank...he said the treatment additive would not hurt my engine and if I had any problems to let him know he gave me a free gal of Howes Diesel Treat for my troubles ;D

Re:Brown smoke

If they kicked up alot of crud you might want to look into changing your fuel filter a little sooner than normal. May only need to pull it to look at the color on the top of the filter but I would err on the side of caution.
