Broken NV4500 Question
Not in a Dodge, but a light duty 4500 in a 3/4 ton Chevy with a 350. Dad was pulling a stock trailer down the highway. The pickup started shuttering then the engine died. Got the engine to start, and it would do nothing when put in gear. We had it towed to the dealer, who looked at it and said that a gear was stripped out in the transmission, due to inadequate oil level. It must be the input shaft gear.
Anyway, right now we are looking at options. Mostly. rebuilding it ourselves, as opposed to buying a reman or new transmission. My research on this forum indicates that it might be costly for the gear alone. We are not looking for perfection, just to get it fixed and driveable for a couple more years.
