Broke the Spring!

Guy's I thought I would share this little story with You all and give you a little warning. Ok here's how it went down I'm cruising down the highway in a relatively curvy section on the way home from work in the left lane in heavy traffic when all of a sudden the rpms go all the way up and the truck feels funny I'm thinking the worse case scenario of course and I pull over and it's a simple spring that broke! Check them for wear guy's it can happen at a bad time! Where can I get this spring? Anyone have an extra??

So thats the throttle spring right? I've heard u can just goto a hardware store and get a nice strong spring to closely match it. I wonder how u can check to see if the springs in good condition, because its hard to see stress in a spring.

Did u throw it in nuetral or what? Scary situation if that happened in traffic, did u just pull the pedal up with ur hand to drop the rpms back down or did u go and move the linkage back?

I have a broken spring on my pump, but since I've noticed it, it hasn't ran any different. It wasn't broken when I bought the truck...so I don't know how it happened, but I'll eventually replace it when I get a round to it.

Well I can tell you this things get real sensitive! And believe me it's not what you want to happen in traffic! I will head to the hardware store tomorrow for a new one. If your truck is older I would check it out!!

Mine broke while going over an overpass, truck suddenly sped up and had to get off the pedal in a hurry before hitting the car in front of me. There are 2 springs so the pedal did return but it felt really funny, really easy to push the pedal. I got the replacement spring from Dodge, Cummins wont sell you one, the best part is it comes in a Cummins bag with a Dodge sticker over it. Price was over $35.00

Maybe that's why they used two springs...

Had actually wondered if it was normal to have such a heavy accelerator pedal feel - makes you wish the truck had a cruise control, my foot gets a little sore after an hour or 2. How does the pedal "feel" in an unaltered truck of this (below in sig line) model? HEavy, or? what's normal?

Actually there was no part number they had two display boards in back of the counter and one had springs that were for drum brake applications and the other board was for throttle return springs of all size and shape and I just grabbed the one that was close in size and shape and as I said it was the right price!
