boost gauge for fuel pressure

boost gauge for fuel pressure
I have a grainger generic fuel pressure gauge right now and would like to get an Autometer gauge to match the rest. Problem is autometer does not offer a 0-60 gauge in their Phantom line. I am not real fond of the resolution on the 0-100 psi gauge so I am wondering if I could run a 0-60 psi boost gauge for the fuel pressure. Autometer will not say it will work but I am all but convinced all their pressure gauges are the same with just a different label on the face.
Any opinions?

My fuel pressure gauge says "water". Pressure is pressure, the gauge doesn't care. Take a look at http://surpluscenter.com/sort.asp?UI...s&keyword=NFGA
I got my gauge there for $9 and it matches the Z-series gauges perfectly.

That's what I thought. My exact thoughts were pressure is pressure. My only concern was that the diesel may be 'slightly' more corrosive to the gauge. I do have a needle valve that does a pretty good job at controlling the pulses so I am not worried about the liquid filled part too much. My $6 grainger gauge is liquid filled and does a good job but it is not a lighted gauge and doesn't match very well. I guess I am just getting picky. The doors may rust off but I would like my gauges to match and be readable at night. Kind of funny if you ask me.

Fuel preesure question
The suggested web site looks great http://surpluscenter.com/sort.asp?U...es&keyword=NFGA, Thanks
There are several 0-30psi water gauges shown there. Is 30psi a good choice?
Also noticed they had Fuel gauges 0-100psi that stated;
100 PSI FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE
New Auto Meter Industrial model 1412 C2B fuel pressure gauge. Must be mounted outside of a vehicle.
Is there a hazard / issue mounting in the cab?
My total experience in this space is installing an elctric sensor Tranny Temp gauge in my F150 gasser. Could I get some basic tips on installing one of the above in a Ram2500 with 5.9L Cummins???
Thanks, Bill

If you have a 12 valve a 0-60 psi gauge would be the best option. Mine idles at about 30. If it is a 24 valve a 0-30 should suffice. If you run it in the cab there is a potential for fuel to leak in the cab. On my drag race cars I always run them outside but in this application I am comfortable running a direct line into the cab. I refuse to use an electrical gauge since I just don't trust them. The way mine is set up if there ever was a leak I would notice it pretty quick because of the smell and all I have to do is close the needle valve and there is no more fuel flow. Also, diesel is not quite as volitile as race gas. I have it set up now through a crappy little nylon line and it has been fine for some time but I just ordered the braded steel line from Summit as I see this as cheap insurance.

Bill, you will need at least a 40 psi gauge or it will be pegged much of the time. My normal cruising fuel pressure is 33 psi.
60 psi is the best choice because it will read straight up at normal specs.
I also used a $6 Grainger gauge for several years but upgraded to a $9 Autometer from Surplus Center that actually says fuel pressure on it. If you are patent one labeled correctly will come around but as was said all others are compatible with diesel.

how to install pressure meter
Ok your talking to a Saturday morning mechanic here! I have installed an electric Tranny temp before , So how do I install this Fuel Pressure meter in the engine compartment, that I found at the surpus website, listed below;
100 PSI FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE
New Auto Meter Industrial model 1412 B2B fuel pressure gauge. Must be mounted outside of a vehicle. Mounting bracket included.
SPECIFICATIONS
Measures from 0 PSI to 100 PSI in 5 PSI increments
12 VDC illumination w/ case ground
2" dia. face
2-5/16" black bezel
Black face w/ white markings
Mounts in 2-1/16" dia. opening
1/8" NPTM rear connection
Two threaded mounting studs on rear
Shpg. 2 lb.
I guess the " 1/8" NPTM rear connection " is what connects to the "nipple" on the Fuel Filter?????? What will I need to hook it up????
Thanks for any help! Bill
