Yes boost is just compressed air... With lots of fuel you want lots of air, considering the only way to get more air into the same size space is to compress it. You've got to match the amount of air you need to the amount of fuel for a nice clean and powerful result. That's why high fuel burners want big boost numbers so they dont end up burning holes in pistons.

So I dont see why it couldn't be a boot?

Usually if it is a boot problem, you will hear a whooshing noise when the turbo spools. Under alot of boost, it may be very loud. If it is off, the truck will be totally different, run extremely hot, and smoke tons more than i think yours is...
