Thx.

Could be a # of things. Check the air filter. Alot of times, a clogged A/F will cause excess smoke and low power. If you floor the throttle w/ a clogged filter, the engine will kind of stumble and you'll get lots of excess smoke.

Yes. Low boost, excessive turbo noise or a "whooshing" sound, and black smoke.

Hmm, it DID smoke more when I first got the truck, because of the dirty K&N - I have since thrown the K&N out and put the paper filter back in. No excessive turbo noise or whooshing sound but she blows black like a freightrain, even at low speeds and when taking off from a stop.

I'd say cut back some on the star wheel adjustment and see if that helps, but looking at your post count, I'm sure you already have tried that.

The symptoms of a damaged boot would be lower than normal boost, or maybe no boost at all.

Timing could also be off.
The lower pass side boot to the intercooler is the one that tends to get damaged. When it puffs up under pressure it can rub on a sharp edge of the fender. When the engine isn't running it's hard to see if it has a cut in it, have to find it with your fingers.

Dr. Evil - not sure where you are located, but places like BD and PDR have replacement intercooler boot kits with all four boots and new clamps for about $210-225, way better than the stock boots and won't blow off, and a lot more cost effective than going to the *******, that one lower boot from Dodge is over $100 or something crazy like that.

Piers is the best source for you in Canada. He sells single boots as well as sets.
His boots put the factory ones to shame.

My intercooler boot had a rub through spot on it from the fender. I bent the fender piece out of the way, and took the boot off and patched it. It held for a while, but blew out with alllllllll that horsepower rushing thorough there It's really not worth your time to try and patch it, just buy one from Piers. I bought one from them, but it is ttoouughhh to get on, thats for sure. But once you get it on, its not going to blow out, or anything. I think it was $65.00 or $70.00? Go ahead and get it, you wont be dissapointed...

Ooops, assuming thats the problem here. Take the stock ones off and check them out, its not tough, just 2 clamps. It will most likely be the passenger side, seeing that they are notorious for rubbing the fender... Good luck!

The intercooler boot will not cause smoke. If you lose a boot, boost will be non-existent. Smoke is fuel, unburned fuel. Slide the AFC or try the star wheel. When you go to far on the star wheel, your power will be gone and the truck will seem dead. When you get to that extreme point, go back, 2 clicks at a time till the power comes back and smoke is at a minimum

A boot WILL cause smoke , lots of it.

You will loose boost , so there is not enough air to burn all the fuel , resulting in smoke.
