Best ways to improve mpg???
Im curious as to what are the best ways to improve fuel milage on a 12v. Im only get 7.5-9 mpg city and that REALLY SUCKS!!!
i know afjusting the timing to 16* is good. Any body know anywhere in Colorado I can havce this done and how much would it cost???
How much would, lets say, 300 or 370s improve it???
How bout a #10 plate??? Will it make it worse???

The best way to correct your mileage right now is to replace the OEM AFC spring with the medium spring from an AFC kit, then move the AFC housing full forward on its screw slots. Cranking the star wheel on a stock AFC spring really cuts fuel mileage in town driving. You need the longer and softer spring from the aftermarket kit to restore your mileage so the governor arm does not slam so far forward at low boost levels.
The next biggest fuel mileage increase will be made by advancing your timing. It is not particularly hard to do and the instructions are found on www.dodgeram.org (just follow the diesel links). Judging from the changes you have done to your truck, you should have little problem doing it yourself if you cannot find someone to do it for you.
Most high performance injectors will decrease your mileage by increasing the fueling rate. There are some that use more and finer holes, and are internally polished that can increase mileage with proper timing. I would recommend you contact the suppliers and chat with them about the types of injectors they offer.

Re:Best ways to improve mpg???
Thanks for the help. I moved the AFC housing forward and slide the cam plate back a lil. I'll see how that works. Now, are the AFC springs the same as a govener spring???
Also, Im assuming that adding a new plate will make mpg worse??? Because more fuel is being used???
Thanks,
Sam

Cranking the star wheel which way? I adjusted mine after shaving my fuel plate so I wouldn't smoke so much, but I am still getting poor mileage. I have mpg envy when I read all of these posters who say they get over 20 mpg! I want that too :'( :'(

Greyboy,
Even with the 37" tires...I would think you should get better than that....have you adjusted your valve lash?, changed fuel filter and prefilter? ran some injector cleaner??
I would take cumminsgetsome up on his offer.....would be a good learning experience.
Good luck.
BTW, I checked out your pics....awesome truck....
PS: have you been to the www.dodgeram.org site???...lots of good info. check it out....

Re:Best ways to improve mpg???
I mean, have you adjusted your valves lately ?
Its supposed to be done every 24 00 miles (or once a year at least)
Have a look.....

Re:Best ways to improve mpg???
Nope, I havent done it at all, unless the dealer does it when when I take in it...I doubt it. It doesnt look like too hard of a job. Have you done it yourself??? Is it very difficult??? How long does it take???
Thanks,
Sam
