rotted fuel lines into tank
hey guys just picked up a 96 2500 12v ram 5spd in the middle of redoing all brake lines and fuel lines and i need to change the intank fuel pump any idea where the best place to get one from?

Wherever you decide to get the pump from make sure you go ahead and pickup some muffler bearings and replace those while you're at it.
haha just kidding.
There is no in tank fuel pump on a 96. Just the mechanical pump on the side of the block.

pos, best guess is you have rusted lines coming out of the tank module?
If so, very common, I stick the Vulcan draw straw in, cheap, and much nicer than the factory stuff, Dodge went to plastic in the later years........

Order the 3/8" kit for stock or slightly warm trucks.

When my 2500 was brand new I took it into the dealer for warranty work with a fuel system problem.
Dealer said the problem was the assembly line forgot to install the in tank pump.
They went though all the work of dropping my tank and replacing the module. It wasn't till they had the tank back up that someone told the "mechanic" working on it that only the gassers have pumps in the tank.

Infidel, what are they 47 bucks at the dealer?
Add $50 for the Drawstraw and you're getting real close to the $125 the dealer wants for an entire remanufactured tank module.
The remans have plastic fuel lines that don't rust out.
If you go for a new module they're over $300.

So you can get a reman for 125? That's good to know, I have put a couple of used ones in from Ebay, 50-75 bucks when I see one, I try and buy it for a spare. Seems like people gravitate my way when they hear I work on my own Cummins.
I would still stick a Drawstraw in my personal ride, I hate those stupid pushlock connectors with a passion I doubt few could understand.
I swear I get a thrill every time I get to cut that stinking plastic line off of the steel fuel lines.........

Maybe you can find a source for that accordion-like tubing that can bend without needing heat? Some of the newer setups use that instead of a coil.
Youll need to drop the tank and support it so that the center hangs free and gauge the amount of house you need to match the extended length of the pickup unit.
Dont be tempted to use some draw straw 2's for this.. Youll suck a lot of air and stall at < 1/4 tank. You need the baffles in the pickup unit.

Whats the nylon coil all about?
When I did my draw straw in my dually, I tilted the bed up and pulled the module up that way, that way the tank will stay in its normal position. If you do drop it, make sure you support it where the straps do like was said. If you support it in the middle, you take the sag out of it, and will cut the straw too short and that is where the running out of fuel issue comes from. I cut mine so it was about 3/8" off the bottom of the tank. I've had my fuel gauge in the E line a good ways, and never had a stalling issue.
The Draw Straw 2 is for guys with intank pumps that will be discarding them to run an external lift pump. Thats 24v stuff.
