Talking

I got K-D Brand in a pretty cool Cummins Tool Set. It included a flex 3/8 drive ratchet, metric sockets commonly used in servicing a Cummins B series engine, a 14mm and a 15 mm wrench, feeler guages, a stubby screwdriver, an oil filter wrench, a BARRING tool, all housed in a nice case.
It cost about $55 and the Cummins part # 3399869.
If you just want The barring tool only do a search on e-bay.

When I adjusted the valves on my pickup, I did not need a barring tool to turn the motor over.
I pulled the inspection plate off the bell housing, and turned it over with a screw driver. Not very fast, but cheap to do and gets the job done!

Even easier just turn the alternator pulley nut.
Problem is you can only turn the engine one way (nut tight)
I made my own barring tool by welding the gear from a bad starter to a cheap socket.

Here is one from SnapOn:

I think Miller's version is slightly cheaper (Part No. 7471B), you have to call them to order it:

I like these barring tools because you have very precise control and its really easy to turn the engine in either direction.

IIRC, I paid ~ $22 for the barring tool alone from one of the Cummins shops down here in STX. It was in a Cummins bag, with a Cummins PN(probably made by Miller).
Just go down to the Cummins parts counter and ask for a Barring tool for B and C engines.
I like the idea of that kit that BUTCHB described...
