Bad mileage???

Another question about mileage. I'm only getting about 15MPG in town, easy driving. I have not adjusted my timing yet after my plate and spring mod. Could that be what is giving such bad MPG? And also high EGT's like 800 cruising at 55 no load? Thanks, for any help.....

Be lucky you are getting 15, I only get 13-14. 800 isnt hot at all if thats pre-turbo. I think the gas milage thing mainly has to do with how you drive it.

Around town I average 18.5 , and at 55 mph my EGT's run under 550.
Perhaps someone here can offer some things for you to look for altho your MPG doesn't seem that bad. IMO you egt's should be lower at that speed.

the mileage sounds ok for in town, but I agree that 800 degrees @55 sounds kinda high. What gears do you have? Do you lock out O/D in town so the converter will lock up in 3rd? If you haven't had the timing done I would definately get 'er done, my truck had slipped to under 11 degrees over the years before I got it, set the timing to 16.5 and it helped my egt's.

EGTS are high

and from reading back at other posts, i can say, It can be your fuel filter, your air filter is clogged, your pre filter needs cleaning, and if all that fails, it is your timing..

Best of luck!

Your EGT's do seem a little high for no load 55mph no load driving, but as already mentioned, what gears and tire size are you running. Is that in OD or not. With 3.55 gears at 55mph in od you are lugging the engine a bit and will be under the turbo so therefore you EGT's will be elevated.

15MPG for around town driving doesn't seem all that bad to me.

Could be a dirty air filter that is causing the high EGTs. A dirty fuel filter or pre-screen would more likely cause low EGTs from the lack of fuel.

I never saw over 900* max (pre-turbo) at WOT on my truck with the 10 plate alone. The plate was in stock position then, to save the stock tranny that I use to have. Had about 500-600* on the flat @55-60mph.

What gears do you have ?

I have 4.10's, and a 5 spd, and I am getting around 15-16. EGT is around 550-600 at 65 mph.

I need to do the timing on mine too, as I am sure it has slipped.

If you have 3.55 gears, 33" tires, and are running OD at 55MPH that is probably the reason for your slightly elevated EGT's. You are probably a little under the turbo.
