Back in the game.....

I sold my 94 12 valve over the summer to pay some medial bills. . But I am now picking up a 97 quad cab long bed, 5 speed 4 x 4 with 220,000 on the clock for $2800.00

5th gear is out on the trans. I can't remember from my 94 how fast I can go in 4th gear. I have to drive about 95 miles in 4th with some hills. I am thinking I can go 55 safely in 4th. Any problems with that??

Also the guy says the 97 is a 2500 but it has lights on top of the cab like a 3500. I am looking at the truck tomorrow and if all goes well will be driving it back home. Are the cab lights a indication of a 3500 truck?

No, cab lights are on most 2500 trucks also... And a 97' is a club cab.. only two doors. 98' started the quad cab with 4 doors

Unless they are 4.10s you won't have trouble at 55, trying to remember exactly, 2200 sounds about what I run in 4th.

Yea, I still need to get around to fixing my 5th gear, it has only been a year......

Can't see the picture, but I bet it is a California spec EGR equipped truck. Tht is the only hose I am aware of going over the valve cover.

It must be a EGR. Because the truck has a catalytic converter as well. I forgot that the Cali trucks have emissions on them. I guess I will just hollow that thing out..... I wonder in Nevada if I could remove the cat and still pass smog??

And I picked up the truck today. Limped it home today in 4h gear. Runs great. But check engine light is on. What on a 97 will cause the check engine light to stay on?

As far as I know, most 12v came with Cats. I have a 180hp non-CA truck and just ditched the cat a few months ago.

Joelayan maybe you are correct. I can't remember if my 94 had one or not. Any Nevada 12 valves know if I can pass smog with no cat?

Any idea what makes the "check engine" light come on?

Starting 1/1/94 production, they had cats until 1/1/98 ( 24V production ) So some 94's could have came without a cat, but not many.

Depends on how close they watch, if they are looking you won't pass.

Check engine is likely EGR system.
