axle swap to ford
Does anyone know what year ford frount axle will fit(with)in my truck?
all my ball joints are bad and to replace the hub bearings (which you have to)is like $300 a side, and i run 38" tires so a lot of stress is on the bearings that are to close together with plastic inbetween the inner/outter

Any year up to 97 will have the correct bolt pattern. If you are running 38's, I would suggest a king pin axle and ditch the ball joints. The Ford D60 ball joints are not any stronger or more durable than the Dodge D60 ball joints.
DTR member LanceD has done the Ford D60 swap and did a great job too......you may want to consider sending a PM with any other swap questions as he as first hand experience.....he has some good pics in his gallery too.

Just don't go with the independent axle on the 250's. (up to '97 I think) Very poor design that suffers from spring fatigue leading to front end sag etc etc. Its otherwise a good system, but just can't handle the weight of a diesel or big block.

I think the TTB Ford D44/D50 is a terrible front end for any truck, IMO.....the only way to get the pre 98 Ford D60 is to get one from a F350 unless you go all the way back to pre 1980 and then you can get one from a F250.

CTD NUT,I'me with you on the TTB I think they .You get the same problem with ttb as with dodge steering(Y set up)add a plow of weight in the bed and your toe in/out changes.not a really big problem stock but lift and big tires well you get the point

yea, 92 to 97 is what I used, its balljoint, and I haven't heard of really any strength differences between balljoint and kingpin axles. the bad thing about putting a kingpin axle on a newer truck and keeping the link setup and coils is that you will have to have the coil springs set in farther on the axle. there is a writeup on pavementsucks.com of a guy that put a kingpin 60 in, and I have all the info you need for a balljoint 60, so I guess its up to you which one you want to do. I will be glad to assist in any way I can.
