auto transmission help
My tranny slips quite often of course it does it more when cold, but also some when hot. Even after letting it warm up in nuetral for a couple of minutes. Sometimes it seems like it slips up to second and almost chokes the motor down. I was wanting to do a band adjustment, fluid/filter change. Then I thought it might be a little over my expertise. So I decided to call a guy that was referred to me. I told him what it was doing and that I was thinking of doing it myself. He said that it takes a special machine to remove the fluid from the TC and that my tranny was electronic so there was no need to do the band adjustment. I was thinking to myself, Why does it take a special machine to get the fluid out. Doesn't it just kind of seep out overnight? That's why the warm up in neutral helps so much, right? And after he said that about the electronic stuff, I figured I'd just try to do it myself. I was going to follow the tips on

Drop the pan, change the filter and fluid. Check and adjust both bands while in there.
Drive it 500 miles and do it again. This will get most of the old fluid out.
Don't rely on the fluid flush and no filter change out.

Mine does the same thing when cold. I changed the filter and fluid and nothing changed much. I asked on here about the band adjustment and some said to do it and others said to just leave it alone. Keep me posted on what you do and how it turns out.

After about 5 hours of rolling around on my back under the truck, I'm finished. Changed the tranny fluid, filter adjusted the bands and flushed out all of the old stuff. After driving it I think I have a little too much fluid in there so I guess I'll have to flush some of that out as well. Anyway I don't how the &*(# your supposed to torque the front band. After 3 auto arts stores I never found a 5/16 square socket or an 8mm 12pt. So I just practiced with the torque wrench and got a feeling for 72 in/lbs. It seems to be shifting fine. Can't tell a lot of difference. OD seems to kick in at 45-46 mph, whereas before it would kick in at about 42 mph before. Is this a problem?
