auto tranny gurus?
i just barely got my truck back from the dealer who rebuilt the complete transmission and put in new torque converter all under a Daimler Chrysler warranty. truck had just a little slip before but now it is a difference between night and day, no slip at all. now for the simple questions. do i need to ran any type of automatic transmission additive, and if so what brand? how soon do i need to change the fluid in the trans due to it having the new clutches and that in it? and for the last question,, it has finally started to snow and it is staying on the ground and this is my first winter driving this truck. is it ok to run under 50 mph at 1800 rpms with the overdirve off for at least 30 miles or so? with the slick roads it is alot nicer to drive slow with the overdrive off than on. i know that with the o/d off that the trans is locked up in third gear and so i figured this is better on the transmission. thanks for ur replys

You don't need an additive, unless a problem comes up. Ask them what fluid they used. ATF III or ATF IV ?
Change the fluid around 1,000 miles.
You can run the trans in either drive or OD if the RPM are at or above 1800. This is best for the trans.

when i bought the truck it came with a warranty for 3000 miles or 3 months whichever comes first that the DC would pay for 100% parts and100% labor on pretty much anything, it gave a huge list. some of the items were injection pump, lift pump, transmission and related components,,even all gaskets and seals are covered as i got the valve cover gaskets and the transfer case resealed as well when it was in. i was really shocked to see the warranty box marked on the window sticker thingy. i read through the terms of the warranty and it says that any DC vehicle that is 8 years old or newer and has less than 125,000 miles is eligable for the warranty. pretty good deal i think. =the fluid smells like ATF 4 as i am used to the smell of ATF 3 and it smells nothing like what i am used to.

When I bought my truck from a private party, I took it to my local DC dealer to see if they had done any work on it in the past. (Its a local truck) At that time the service person checked to see if I could get an extended warranty......nope, not for me ! 67K miles and a 97 got her in May 04. Glad to hear you got satisfaction from your dealer. Sounds like they treated you correctly. I am sure you will remember that when purchasing your next vehicle.

Don't think gottahavediesel got a extended warranty nor was he eligible for one.
Sounds more like a variation on the 30 warranty some dealers offer on used vehicles, in some states this warranty is the law.
