auto revs near 2100rpm take off..
If I accellerate hard my tach revs up there pretty good, near 2100 or so.Is this normal? The trans was rebuilt about 60,000 ago. It seems to act fine at soft take off. I did pull a trailer once and it seemed to "shake" during take off and it may have leaked a little trans fluid when I shut it off cause it smoked a little ans smelled hot. Am I do for a new trans? Any probmels to look out for as trans start to go? Truck is bone stock 95,3.54 gear. 268,000 miles

Well, first of all, Sorry your truck is still stock!!!!!!
Since I had a 95- auto truck, I'll give my opinion.
The stock converter is way too loose on all/any Dodge truck with the Cummins.
The shaking you are descibing most likely is the rear clutch slipping. Make sure the TV cable does not have any slack in it.
I find it easiest to check it from below. You need this cable tight enough to move the lever instantly when the throttle is moved. The stock cable stretches and softens the shifts by lowering the pressure. I hope it is not to late to save it.

In general, you want the TV cable at rest with the throttle at rest. You also want the TV cable to move as soon as the throttle moves. NO SLACK.
I an not sure when the cables were changed, but the 95 had a button to push in to release the grip. A spring will push it out so hold it as you push this button. BTW, the button is the opposite side of where you think the button is!!!
The later ones had a slide-in lock that has to be removed to make an adjustment.
These adjustments are at the top end of the cable, neat the bracket that hold it before the TPS or APPS.
I bet quite a few trans have failed because this cable is not adjusted like above.
NEVER-on a Cummins/47rh or 47 re- use this adjustment to try to set the max throttle up-shift point.

tv cable
apologies for butting in here the more i read about this subject the more confused I get.
some say adjust to 1/8" at the throtle valve lever; some say no slack at the throtle body;
I'm assuming the lever on the transmission is what we're talking about here. Or can both ends be adjusted? is there a link or something with a little more detail? And dosen't the throtle linkage itself play a part in this?
sorry; I know this thing is a beaten horse
