Any reason rear passenger side brake would be worn more than the others?
Any reason rear passenger side brake would be worn more than the others? I am in the process of doing a brake job and got to the rears today. When I finally got the drums off. Passanger side was down to bear metal on both pads and the
drum is toast. The driver side still had half of the pad left and drum is still good.
It is a 96 4x4 auto 2500 it has rear abs. Any suggestions what would cause this?
thanks, John McHorney

Is it possible someone before you only replaced one side? Are both sides operational? , and was the good side so far out of adjustment it was not working?

The rear adjusters dont work so good on these trucks so perhaps one worked and one didnt? Also check the side with pad left and see if the wheel cyl is working ...Scrap that and replace both wheel cyls with the chevy 1 ton ones since its apart.

Check your emergency brake cables. The right one is 4 times the length of the left one, and tends to get sticky or frozen more than the left. Other than that, as mentioned, somebody changed half the set or a wheel cyl. is causing trouble. Usually if everything's working OK, these trucks will never wear out a set of shoes.

IMO thats in part because of the whimpy rear wheel cyls. Once upgraded rear shoe life decreases somewhat.
