I Have been reading alot on the KDP and I cannot figure out exactly where the case is that I would need to take appart to get to the pin. Can anyone give me a heads up on exactly what and where i need to go on my truck to get to the pin. I've got the jist of what to do once i get to the pin but i just need to know what to take apart to get to it. Thanks

I would think it should take a couple of hours maybe.

The KDP fix described in Fschiola's link is the "tab" method.

You can also contain the KDP using the retaining bolt method if the KDP has not started to work it's way out. This method does not involve removing the timing gear cover. Using a jig, a hole is drilled through the front gear case cover, the hole is tapped, and a bolt is inserted in front of the KDP to prevent the KDP from backing out. This is the way I "killed" my KDP.

Just wanted to let you know that there is another method. This method is a lot faster IMO.

The advantage of the tab method is that you can see if the KDP has moved, you can snug up other bolts while you are in there, you can fix any leaks you may have with the gear cover, and you get to replace the seal in the gear case cover.

the bad part about the jig set up is that if the pin has worked its way out just a little then you will end up tearing it down anyway. I didnt even have to get any gaskets as mine were in good shape and it hasnt leaked. I was just very careful when i took everything apart and put it back together.. Heck, if you want you can give me a call and i can talk ya thru it. let me know

Contact Harold- rvhvnfn@juno.com -208 850-8749
Harold has a standard kit consisting of the KDP jig, a 5/16 drill bit w/drill guide and stop collar.w/directions for $29.95 including S&H.
He also sells fan wrenchs, not sure of the price.
Even though Harold sells the jigs he now recommends the tab method.
