Alternator brushes?

Any ideas of what the average lifespan is for the OEM brushes is for a 1996 TCD? The alternator is stock and never been touched. I know that there is no set mileage, but I am looking for a general consensus. Nothing I will hold you too

That's right around where I've seen the failures too. If you catch your alternator before it fails, replace the brushes and clean up the slip rings a bit, it should last a good long time without letting you down. Mine failed a couple years after I replaced the brushes, stuck a new rectifier in and it has been good ever since.

Wow. The alternator on my '95 was still going at 282,000 when I pulled it and retired it on general principals. I still have it and intend on getting it rebuilt as my spare.

Where's a good place to get the parts for them. Does it have a diode trio and rectafier? Need to change mine out soon.

I just pulled my original out of storage and took it in to my local rebuilder for freshening up. It's Nippo Denso! Can I assume the N.D.'s are much better than the generic alternators you get at the auto parts stores?

The ones you get at the auto parts stores are also ND's, just with a questionable rebuild.........

I just had mine rebuilt at 200,000. It was still working but looking at the old parts it was on its last legs.

Have your rebuilt, make them pry your original from your cold dead hands.
