An air compressor for the 6BT?

Paging through the Cummins manuals I noticed that some engines came with an air compressor. From what I gather this is used for trucks with air brakes. I'm *assuming* that the air compressor is where the vacuum pump is on the Dodge. Am I correct?

Is there any way that I could have this air compressor on my truck? Alternatively, what are my options for an air compressor?

Thanks
Vic

Holset makes an air compressor that goes there. The only one that I have seen is a stand alone unit, no vacuum or P/S pump piggy backing it. Thats not to say they don't exist though. You could get an old York style A/C compressor, and run that in place of your current A/C compressor. Or just an electric one.

You can get compressors that have a power steering pump piggy backed on, mine came with one its a large ZF pump and the compressor is 11CFM I think. You should be able to get them from commercial bone yards as they are on medium duty applications.

Did some research based on the info here and wow - it's either complicated or expensive!

66gaza - can you give me any more info on the part in question? I'm failing to find relevant info via google.

There is a fellow on this forum that has installed a engine from Freightliner that is in his 24 valve truck. ISB275 I think?

I built my own bracket to mount a york to my 12 valve. I used kilby pulley and other parts to make it work, have had it on the truck about 4 years now, and it works well. I mounted it over the alternator.

I bought a compressor/steering pump setup for a cummins but it was too long, I would have had to move the drivers side engine mount somewhere else. I still have the compressor and pump if anyone is interested. shipping from Guam won't be cheap though haha

Can you send pictures of how you did this? Are you running the York compressor in place of your factory AC compressor? I want to do the same thing but haven't figured out how to mount another compressor without removing something.

Any info or pictures is greatly appreciated.
