Advanced Timing

After reading on here about it, I finally got it done, had the ole girls timing advanced to 16. Wow what a differece with MPG,went from 18 to 21. Cant wait to see what it will do when i get the gearvender installed. Love the smoke now, sure takes care of those noises from those Hondas, Thump Thump.

Thanks for all the info, awesome site.

cumminsgetsome
My timing had slid back some to 11.5, but fixed that didnt I.

Think you should check your timing more than you do your valves.

Truck has 110k on it and the valves have not been touched, and after checking them they where still good.

Re:Advanced Timing

Trickytrae,
Did you do the timing adjustment yourself, or did you have a professional do it?
I'd like to do mine, but I don't have the tools.

Re:Advanced Timing

Had a Pro do it here in Omaha, looked into it and decided it wasnt worth the money and time for me to do it.
Was only 100.00 in labor to get it done.
Well worth it in my opinion.

Re:Advanced Timing

Like I said the money you spend on the tools to get the job done will cost way more than having it done at a Pro Shop.
Dont get me wrong there are alot of things I have done on my truck but when it comes to something of this sort I let the pros do it. Besides their kids have to eat too.

Re:Advanced Timing

The timing tool kit cost too much for just doing you own truck, I bought the puller alone as my pump is timmed from the shop, if I want it advanced or retarted I do it using the balancer and a tape measure. WHIFF you can do this too with a puller, the dail indicator is nice but it's not brain surgery, The pain is doing the true TDC using the drop valve method.
