Just a private truck

284,000 miles still makes me smile when it shifts. If I could afford the gas I would accelerate faster.

Im on my third cummins now, my first 2500 4x4 90 model I put in the mud all the time when I was in high school, the motor was and still is stock. I sold it to my cousin and it now has 375+ and runs perfectly fine. its hauled 6000 lbs 75% of the time for the last 75000 miles. Only about 25% of the time before that. Very well built machines, I love em!!!

I have a 92 with over 500K and it has had 2 water pumps and and head gasket only becous the PO ran straight water and it got rusted up. It was a Hot Shot rig for about 300K and it still runs strong. My 96 has 289K and the runs fine. Both of these trucks have been modded and have to work to earn there keep around hear. The body on the 92 is in better shape than the 96 the PO was kinda hard on it. The only thing that is junk on these trucks is the stuff made by Dodge like the body, electical, frame and things like that. The drive train is strong.

I am glad to read this thread. I just bought my 97 a couple of months ago, and have already put 6K miles on it. Believe it or not, my wife enjoys driving it and ends up taking it most of the time and sticks me with my econo box as I have a longer work commute.

I have 190K on the ticker now, if I could make it to 400-500K with no real major issues, I would be thrilled.

We both drive it very gentle but, it has been towing a 7900 GVW trailer a lot lately. I take it pretty easy though, try not to pull any more then 2K RPMs while towing.

The prior owner I bought it from lived outside of the city so, a lot of the miles that were on it when I purchased it were freeway miles so my hope is that those miles werent as hard on the truck. It seems to run well to me.
Regards,
Steve

Maintenance is key, but don't forget care of the body and underside of the truck. The engine and tranny might be doing great, but if the rest of the truck is disintegrating around you (like mine is), you'll end up with a very nice electric generator for the whole neighborhood.
