Yep, had same symptoms plus no cruise. 50c to fix! It was a hole in a vacume line under the driver side battery due to acid leak! I hope this is your problem too! Good luck.

Check that the connector to the speed sensor on the rear differential is clean and good.

If that doesn't get it replace the sensor.

I am having the same problem too. Mine is a 2000 though.

Last week I got a P-1693 and lost the tach for a second, I think my crank angle sensor is going.

This week I get the ABS and brake light. I still have a speedo though, could it still be the speed sensor?

Its these little things that drive me crazy!

Dan

One more thing, My Truck does not show any other code other than that p-1693.

In checking my 2000 service manual, it appears that it could be related to the RWAL brakes (anti lock). Come to think of it, I never did feel the anti lock engage any time this winter.

I need a DTC computer to really figure this sucker out.

My speedo and tachometer function fine, about 10-15 minutes into driving, regardless of speed or RPM, I get the darn ABS and BRAKE lights on the Dash. I really don't want to take this into the dealer.

I guess I got lucky! I bought a truck with the same problem, the guy I bought it from was sure it was the sensor on thr rear axle so he replaced it as part of the deal but it never fixed the problem. I checked on here for another fix and rolled the dice, bought the truck anyway at a good price and fixed it for 50 cents!!!!!!!Gotta love DTR and the genius` that hang out here (me not included)

abs

this is what I did.

Read"Well, lets see

I was so mad at this truck and this ABS problem that I went to trade it and about ***** when I seen the prices of the new cummins, I am already a hater of all the new electronics so I quickly said no way!!!

I posted about this ABS problem and I got some really good ideas but no one hit it right. I found the problem today and now the truck is fixed!!! I said it is FIXED!!!!

I spent 11 hours going thru the brake system from front to rear and I have checked all vaccum lines, wires,sensors,valves...ect.... well it ended up being the "Vaccum sensor" beside the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side. I did not have a qlue to what it was or did. I just knew my ABS light stayed on. I have replaced that and Now see is like new again!!!!

I love my truck and will keep it forever!!!!!

thanks

Sometimes you just feel like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn`t there! It feels good when you finally crack it! Well done!
