98 12v need help "pcm"
we recently got an 98 12v and the gauges, the transmision, the A/C, the battery charging system didnt work so they told me here at a shop we needed a new PCM. so we bought a new one and they told us that it had to be reprogrammed while it was installed in the truck. so we took the truck to the dealer but now they say they cant have communication between the truck and their "computer"
so the question is if somebody could help, have had same problem or would have an idea why they cant have communication, any help would be appreciated
thanks a lot

Just a thought
did you get one using the serial number of the truck? If not then that might be your problem. If it was given a serial number that it should not have been given, or it got crossed it probably couldnt be programmed. My truck when i got the PCM was programed there at the dealership, with the VIN of the truck, when i got the truck, everything worked as it should...
I dont know what else it could be, but im guessing that is what it is..

When they say no communication to the PCM it usually means a bad connection.
Quite common for the female connectors on the PCM connector to get stretched out and make poor contact. The connector can be taken apart and the connectors squeezed tighter.
My local dealer said the entire vehicle had to be brought in to have the PCM reprogrammed. Turned out they removed the PCM and took it a few blocks down the street for Cummins to reflash it.
