97 trans questions
I have a few questions re my trans.
1) If I'm in od and hit the button to turn it off the trans goes out of od, the converter unlocks then locks in 3rd. If I turn od back on the convert unlocks it goes into od then locks again this makes the rpms go way up then down again. Is this nromal? Is there a way to lock out lock up so I can run in 3rd or od without lockup?
2) When I mash the pedal it stays locked in 3rd or od, shouldn't it unlock for more umph? Does the 47re have a tv cable or is kickdown controlled by the tps?
Thanx

Yes. Yes. No. Both. Transmission is set up by the factory to not shift while locked up, so with the OD turned off and locked up in 3rd it will go out of lock up prior to going into 4th then back into lock up. Try a search for mystery switch, if you want to be able to control this, (instead of grounding wire keep wire open to keep converter from locking up). Generally unless you are at very low rpm the transmission won't down shift because normally with our truck there is more power (torque) at lower rpms. Add a set of 3000 rpm governer springs, and the transmission will then down shift more.
