97 Ram CTD -- Is there a in-tank fuel pump?

I just got off the phone with the Dodge dealer and he tried to sell me a sending unit with an electric pump for over $300. I treid to tell him that there is a mechanical llift pump on the block and no pump in the tank but he believed his computer not me. Is there an electric pump in the tank?

hi
if you have a crotichety fuel sender you may be able to fix it easily by just bending the contact arms slightly .
i fixed mine last week and it works perfectly now !

save your money !

Oldblue, good to know that. But you DID have to drop the tank to get in there didn't you?

You could remove the bed or drop the tank. Kind of depends how much fuel is on your tank.

hi
i droped the tank to do mine when it was on e , still had about 3 gal in there !
had a jack under rear of tank and lowered front end of tank .

dont forget to remove 3 screws holding the fill tube in side the fuel cap door first .
lower it some and disconnect the fuel lines snd gage wire then lower it front end to the ground .
tank is bulky not heavy .
have fun !

If you are just trying to fix your fuel level not reading right, you can get just the sending unit. I replaced mine last year and the part from the dealer was about $60. You might want to check the hard break lines behind the tank while it is down, they are usually corroded. Also, you might consider replacing the hard fuel lines with diesel rated flex lines to avoid any air leak issues. There is lots of information on this site, do a search and you find all you need.

Good luck
