Man am I glad I found this forum......Thanks infidel. I am starting to wonder if it is the injection pump. Sure sounds like it. I am hoping not...sounds expensive. I will get that prescreen finished and see what the weekend holds. Thanks to all for now

So my dealer just quoted me 4800.00 for a new injection pump....plus labour<getting up off the floor> I'm a little dumbfounded to say the least. I thought I saw these units online for a grand or so. Watched the mopar vid on how to install a new one, other than a few tools I do not have, looks reletively do-able. any thoughts?

Much cheaper here> http://www.usdieselparts.com/index.c...-dodge-59l.cfm
Installation and timing should be way less than $500, maybe even less than $300.
Don't let the dealer do it. Besides overcharging their mechanic turnover is high. Most dealers don't have techs that have been around longer than the 14 years since the 12 valve was used.

Here's installation instructions> http://www.dieselcare.net/P7100_Inst...structions.pdf

Not easy but if you can set up a lathe you'll have no problem.

I went with infidels suggestion a couple of years ago. I am not a mechanic. I did the job myself. Pretty straight forward. No problems. Still got the truck.

ok update time.... I ordered a new injection pump, lift pump, overflow valve, prefilter screen kit. I realize it will be difficult to diagnose what the prob was but I feel confident in the stuck plunger theory. As you know, for a little over a hun you can replace the lift pump and I thought why not put in a fresh overflow valve. Unfortunately I paid around 280 bucks at the dealer(lost patience) So this way I hope that I have solved the prob and some potential hags down the road. The old girl has 175000 miles on and deserves a little freshining. Should have them in in a week or ten days. I'll keep you posted.

cheers

Mean to say the new injection pump didn't come with a new OFV?
Every pump I've ever bought has.

I wasn't sure if it came with, and l wanted a fresh one in there.

Guess l'll have to pay that re-stocking charge! Sure beats not having
the part when you need it though. I want this truck fixed.....

Cheers!

You should put a 3GSK before you install the pump.
