97 12 valve puking oil from breather
#16
First you need to establish whats wrong with the motor, for someone on a forum to diagnose a problem is pretty hard, but for little dollars a good shop should be able to get close.
If your good with tools and have a place to work you could pull the engine yourself and disassemble it and have a look, things like a scored wall, broken ring are pretty obvious. Parts are pretty easy to come by depending on what you need.

I live in central Texas near Austin...I'm pretty good with tools, although I haven't been that far into one of the motors...Just did the head gasket about 15000 miles ago, everything looked great inside the cyl's...Should I look for another block for use, Mine is a 53, and although there haven't been many problems with them in the 12 valves, would the extra insurance be worth it. Highest Egt's seen with this truck were 1300-1350 for maybe 1/2 mile running a hill...

Those wear metals are not that extreme, but do indicate some sort of problem going on. I am running waste vegetable oil with a frybrid conversion kit in my truck, was overfueled, and got a bad oil analysis back showing lead at 234ppm with 8685 miles on the oil. I corrected the overfueling condition, ran a couple oil changes at 1000 miles, and my next oil analysis on oil with 5545 miles on it showed lead back down to 3. My other wear metals were high on the first analysis as well:
al: 9
chr: 12
iron: 95
copper: 26
All these wear metals came down to normal after I corrected the overfueling.
Was your silicon high as well? Are you running wvo?

Silicon was not high on my samples... Truck runs great, no abnormal noises from engine, no miss, slight haze from exhaust on cold start, but that those 370's. Did some repeated runs from 65-110 the other night, and truck puked a quart of oil in about 35 miles....something is not right, just don't know what.
