96 with ESS (Erratic Start Syndrome)

Our 96 has the nasty habit of periodically not wanting to crank over. No click, no nothing. Shifting into 'neutral' and rocking the truck usually does the trick, but it's not exactly a real confidence builder. What it's not are the starter contacts...that would have been too easy! I replaced those soon after first purchasing the truck, thinking I was solving the problem. Is there a multi-purpose switch issue that may be the culprit here? Thanks.

Possibly the nuetral safety switch. On the side of the trans, 3 wires I believe.

Great idea! The trans was rebuilt in the past, so something there may be a bit off. I'll look into it

could be the neutral safety switch, I take it that it is a manual? What about the trigger wire that goes to the starter, I had the terminal that attached to the starter come loose, and only got partial contact and therefore only started part of the time.

My auto developed a similar problem where I had to shift down then slam it hard up into park to get it to crank.
This fixed it http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1994/21-24-94.htm
